Mission

To create visually-relaxing pixel games that provide enjoyment to players, rather than creating software whose primary function is to extract money from users through predatory pricing models that exploit insecurities and addictions.

I share the journey to create these kinds of games on my YouTube channel.

Your support helps me continue focusing on developing games with the player experience in mind, and maybe even one day work with more people.

What am I doing to create more ethical games? (and why?)

  • Opting for single-payment rather than ads

Ads motivate people to work to consume more in the long-run by implanting ideas of inadequacy and hopes of personal fulfilment through products.

For single-player standalone games, I've offer them at a low cost and don't include features like microtransactions, displaying ads, or watching ads to get ahead.

  • Not restricting games with subscriptions

Subscriptions limit who can play the game and often increase to just continuously make profit off users.

Not being able to afford a subscription for a period of time means losing access to all of the time you've spent on a game, so I've decided not to have game subscriptions.

  • Not adding artificial inconveniences that encourage microtransactions
  • Opting for game-wide benefits over individual imbalances

For the multiplayer culinary game that I'm developing, I'm developing the game such that development costs are funded by buffs that apply to more than just the individual (e.g. buffs that apply to the entire playbase) to promote community amongst players.

Other ways to support

  1. Follow game development updates on Youtube
  2. Become a playtester for Cocktail Stories on Android

Releasing an app onto the Google Play store requires 15 playtesters to play the game and have it installed for 2 weeks. If you'd like to help with this process, please enter your email and I'll reach out to you with a free app invite.

As part of this process, I'll ask for your feedback on the game and make improvements accordingly.
